Small world, but I totally happened upon this bulletin board looking at Craigslist and then saw this post. I am one of the owners of HomeExchange.com and thought I would jump on in here and try and explain how we operate.
We are somewhat like eBay in that we allow people to sign up and post their listing on our site. Other members can then find your listing and email you through the site, making contact to you without without us revealing your email address.
We offer lots of great services for your membership fee: ability to save listings, ability to email multiple members with the same email, email notification of new listings in areas you choose, unlimited photo uploads, a network of 7 sites in 7 languages on which your listing will display, translation of listings, etc.
If you consider that one night in a so-so hotel is 200 bucks, the 59.95 can be the best money you ever spent on travel. It is true that Craigslist allows you to post your home for free, but there are no search options, no saving of listings, no infastructure to help you find and contact a potential exchange partner.
Feel free to check out the site and ask any questions you might have. We do offer a guarantee that if you fail to make an exchange in the first year after listing your property with us, your second year is free.
We are launching a gold site for multi million dollar homes, and will be coming out with a rental site as well.
Thanks for letting me share!
George
